About Happy Paws Havanese
Hello, we are a small hobby breeder just West of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. We are not a kennel and therefore our dogs are never kenneled in a run or live outside or away from the family--all have run of the house! We only have a few Havanese and that's all we breed and show. My daughter, Shannon, grooms, shows, and trains our Havanese for the conformation ring; and I, Mary, help with everything. Shannon showed in Juniors before she reached the age limit. We've never used professional handlers, so our dogs stand on their own merit.
We've been showing and breeding Havanese since 2004 have 3 finished champions with more to come. One of our champions was a Bred-by (very exciting!), and in addition we've trained one Hav to be a Therapy Dog. Although we've only been showing a few years, we are learning fast and have the wins to prove it! Sissie Klein, owner of Majical Havanese, has been a HUGE help in starting us off. Both our AKC Champion Bailey and our AKC Ch. Savannah are from Sissie.
We take pride in our dogs and our accomplishments so never cut corners when it comes to making sure we are breeding the best. We health test all the dogs in our breeding program and complete each dog's CHIC #. By breeding only AKC Champions and proven healthy dogs, we hope to offer a better Havanese in the next generation.
Most of our puppies go as pets, while a few go as show prospects. We only have a litter or two a year, so we can devote lots of time and love into socializing and raising our puppies. All of course are vet checked, their eyes are checked, microchipped and are ready for their new homes after 8 weeks old. We do not simply breed for profit or to support our (addicting) show hobby, but also to provide the oppertunity for a better next generation and to offer pet homes the very best possible furry friends. The best way to adopt a puppy is not through a pet store or from someone that doesn't know what they are doing, but from someone who is invested in the puppy's future health and well being.
In addition to conformation, we would love to start into either obedience or agility with our Havanese. We've taken so many classes in both those areas and it would be a blast! Since showing is our hobby, we are slowly growing and a great deal of time and effort is put into each of the Havanese we choose to show. Right now we show only one Havanese at a time, which allows us to focus on him/her and perfect and learn about that individual as best we can.
We are always learning and would love feedback! We've already shown other breeders' Havanese and even some other toy breeds. Shannon would love to expand her handling skills and would love to show and groom other Havanese and other breeds as well. If you would like to have Shannon show your dog, contact us!
